About Me
Since 1988, soprano Lee Hoffman has worked with college and community singers to develop and express themselves skillfully, freely, and confidently. Valued for her expertise as a facilitator of developmental process, Lee has a special ability to deeply listen, and to connect students with their own insight and wisdom. She believes that the teacher-student relationship provides a core foundation for developing a fuller and freer sense of self. Lee has taught voice at several universities including Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio; University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio; Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky; Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio; University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music; Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Me as a Teacher
In addition to her music degrees, Lee's Master of Science in Education, Counseling degree is progressively relevant in the student-centered field of applied teaching. For example, she presented a peer-reviewed paper poster at the 2012 National Association of Teachers of Singing National Conference entitled “The Power of Me and You: Maximizing the Benefits of the Teacher-Student Relationship." Lee views each individual student as an equal collaborator in their own learning and development. Mastery of a musical instrument and mastery of personhood are happening during every step of the applied music journey.
My Teaching Style
For me, teaching is a calling that requires complete commitment to student well-being, mutual learning, and excellence. Teaching voice allows me to meet fellow human beings where they are, find out where they want to go, help them gain access to as many options as possible, and accompany them on their journey. At its best, it is a mutually transformative act to share in that process. I derive wholehearted joy in my work with students as we develop the bond of trust necessary for learning, and as they build confidence and achieve academic, artistic, and personal success. I love working with students of varying backgrounds, abilities, needs, and goals. And I am effective in teaching a wide range of vocal repertoire styles and languages.
