My Introduction
About Me
Vera Ivanova graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (Honours Diploma), Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (MM with distinction), and the Eastman School of Music (Ph.D. in Composition). Her works have been performed in Russia, Europe and the U.S.A.
After teaching as Assistant Professor of Theory and Composition at the Setnor School of Music of Syracuse University (NY), she was appointed as Associate Professor of Music in the College of Performing Arts at Chapman University (Orange, CA). Dr. Ivanova is also teaching at the Colburn Academy and the Chamber Music of Orange County Pre-College Program.
Me as a Teacher
I am usually introducing material first, then give an example of how to solve a problem, then ask student to try it and review if necessary. I often use short educational videos (usually sourced from Youtube) before the lesson as an additional supplement to the course materials, or after for an additional explanation. I tend to student's needs and base the lesson plan on the needs of student and the goals of the program.
My Teaching Style
I am strict but friendly, require attention during lessons, assign homework and provide detailed feedback on homework. I prefer email communication or during the lesson time. I strive for student's success!
